The Cayman Islands is gearing up for its largest national celebration, as the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage has unveiled the theme and dates for the 49th staging of the Pirates Week Festival.

The 2026 festival will run from October 30 to November 21, unfolding across all three islands on a staggered schedule. The festivities kick off in Cayman Brac from October 30–31, before the main events take over Grand Cayman from November  6–14, and conclude in Little Cayman on November 20–21.

This year’s theme, “Spirits, Gold & Glory,” was announced alongside an official promotional video message from the Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture and Heritage, the Honourable Isaac Rankine. In his address, Minister Rankine framed the theme as a reflection of the islands’ character.

“This year’s theme reflects the strength, mystery, resilience and adventurous spirit of the Cayman Islands’ national festival,” the Minister said. “After a tremendously successful 2025 Pirates Week Festival, we are excited and optimistic about delivering an even bigger and better experience in 2026”.

Rankine emphasised the festival’s role in preserving national identity, noting, “Pirates Week continues to be one of the Cayman Islands’ premier national festivals, celebrating our heritage, culture, community spirit and the adventurous maritime history that has shaped who we are as a people”.

The 2025 edition, held under the theme “That’s Cayman, Our National Treasure,” was widely regarded as a success, with the Minister previously stating the goal was to “take this back to what made us successful in the beginning”. Building on that momentum, the Ministry is committing significant resources to the 2026 festival, with reports indicating a budget of over half a million dollars.

Organisers have confirmed that the core traditions that draw both residents and visitors will return. The programme includes the highly anticipated night parade, the Pirates Week song competition, and the t-shirt competition. The festival will also see the return of the Heritage District Days, where each district showcases its unique local cuisine, arts, and performances. Adventurous attendees can look forward to pirate invasion re-enactments, the cardboard boat race, and an exhilarating 5K sea swim.

The full festival programme and additional event announcements are expected to be released in the coming weeks. Residents and visitors are encouraged to follow the official Pirates Week communication channels and visit www.piratesweek.com for the latest updates and information on how to participate in what promises to be a vibrant celebration of Caymanian culture and community spirit.
