Caribbean Music Awards to Honor Legends in Trinidad

Four Caribbean music legends will receive special honors when the Caribbean Music Awards makes its Trinidad and Tobago debut on September 19, 2026, at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA).

Calypso Rose, Patra, Shyne and Alan Cavé will be recognized for their contributions to Caribbean music and culture during the fourth annual ceremony, held under the theme “Sounds of the Caribbean.”

Calypso Rose Celebrated for Six Decades of Music

Tobago-born Calypso Rose will receive the Elite Calypso Honor, recognizing a career spanning more than six decades. A pioneer for women in calypso, she became the first woman to win Trinidad and Tobago’s Road March title and later achieved international success with her platinum-selling album Far From Home.

Patra to Receive Lifetime Achievement Honor

Jamaican dancehall icon Patra will receive the Lifetime Achievement Honor. Her 1993 debut album, Queen of the Pack, became the first album by a Jamaican female artist to top Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart.

Hits including “Worker Man” and “Romantic Call” helped establish Patra as one of the most recognizable female stars of Jamaica’s 1990s dancehall era.

Shyne Recognized as a Global Ambassador

Belizean recording artist and public figure Shyne will receive the Global Ambassador Honor, recognizing his evolution from international hip-hop artist to cultural advocate, humanitarian and public servant.

His self-titled 2000 debut reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 before his career expanded into public service and advocacy for Belize and the wider Caribbean.

Alan Cavé Honored for His Influence on Konpa

Haitian-American singer-songwriter Alan Cavé will receive the Elite Konpa Honor for his influence on Haitian music.

Known for his work with Zin and his successful solo career, Cavé has spent more than three decades helping shape Konpa and introducing the genre to audiences throughout the Caribbean and diaspora.

Caribbean Music Awards Heads to Trinidad and Tobago

The ceremony forms part of the inaugural Caribbean Music Awards Elite Weekend Experience, taking place September 18–20 across Trinidad and Tobago.

The three-day celebration will include industry programming, cultural activations, fan experiences, an official after-party and a special steelpan celebration.

After three years in Brooklyn, New York, the 2026 event marks the Caribbean Music Awards’ first edition staged in the Caribbean, bringing the celebration of regional music and culture directly to the region.
