Buju Banton New Dancehall Album: “Too Too Bad”

Jamaican reggae and dancehall star Buju Banton is preparing to release a new studio album, Too Too Bad, on July 17 through VP Records.

The announcement has already generated excitement among fans. Many are eager to hear the veteran artiste return to the hard-hitting dancehall sound that helped define his career.

The upcoming project follows his Grammy Award-winning 2023 album, Born For Greatness. However, Too Too Bad is expected to place a stronger focus on dancehall. As a result, anticipation continues to build ahead of its release.

Leading the album campaign is the single Butterflies, which was released last month. The track was produced by acclaimed Jamaican producer Supa Dups of Black Chiney Music.

In addition, the song features Buju performing over a refreshed version of the iconic Real Rock rhythm. Released through Gargamel Music in partnership with VP Records, Butterflies offers fans an early preview of the album’s direction.

Meanwhile, the title Too Too Bad has sparked conversation across the reggae and dancehall community. For many fans, it appears to reference Buju’s celebrated 2006 album Too Bad. That project produced several memorable hits and remains one of the standout releases in his catalogue.

Over more than three decades, Buju Banton has maintained a powerful influence on Caribbean music. He has successfully balanced dancehall, roots reggae and conscious music throughout his career. Furthermore, his work has helped introduce Jamaican music to audiences around the world.

With only weeks remaining before the release date, fans are now awaiting additional details. These include the official track listing and any potential collaborations.

If the title and lead single are any indication, Too Too Bad could mark a return to the energetic dancehall style that made Buju Banton one of Jamaica’s most celebrated artistes. Consequently, the album is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Caribbean music releases of the year.
