Admin support services are among the most sought-after employees in the Cayman Islands, according to WORC’s latest job postings report

The Cayman Islands recorded a 22.5% increase in advertised job vacancies during the first nine months of 2026, with construction, hospitality and administrative services driving much of the recruitment activity.

According to the September 2026 Job Postings Report released by Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC), employers advertised 17,204 positions between January and September, compared with 14,041 during the corresponding period in 2025.

The figures represent an additional 3,163 job advertisements year-on-year, highlighting increased recruitment activity across several sectors of the Cayman Islands economy.

In September alone, 1,783 vacancies were advertised, a 6.8% increase over the 1,670 recorded in September 2025. Monthly activity remained relatively stable compared with August, when 1,784 positions were posted.

Construction and Hospitality Lead Recruitment Activity

Construction continued to generate the highest volume of advertised vacancies, accounting for 435 positions in September, equivalent to 24.4% of the month’s total.

Wholesale and retail trade, including motor vehicle repairs, followed with 246 advertisements, representing 13.8%, while accommodation and food services recorded 243 vacancies, or 13.6%.

Administrative and support services contributed another 222 postings, followed by professional, scientific and technical activities with 170.

Combined, these five sectors accounted for approximately three-quarters of all vacancies advertised during September.

The broader nine-month figures reflected similar recruitment patterns.

Construction led with 3,424 advertisements, representing 19.9% of all postings, followed by accommodation and food services with 2,609 and administrative and support services with 2,411.

Skilled Trades Among Most Advertised Occupations

Demand for construction-related workers was particularly evident in the occupational breakdown.

Building construction labourers topped the list of advertised positions between January and September, with 930 postings.

Carpenters and joiners followed with 772 advertisements, while occupations involving stonemasonry and stone cutting accounted for 515.

The figures highlight the prominence of skilled trades and manual occupations in recruitment activity, particularly within the construction sector.

Employers Prioritise Experience and Secondary Education

The September report also provided insight into the qualifications and experience employers sought.

A high school diploma or equivalent was the most frequently specified educational requirement, appearing in 1,029 advertisements, or 57.7% of the monthly total.

Bachelor’s degrees were required for 336 positions, while 257 advertisements specified a certificate or diploma.

Professional experience also featured prominently in recruitment requirements.

Approximately 30.2% of September advertisements, representing 538 positions, sought candidates with three to four years of experience.

Another 492 postings required applicants to have between five and six years of experience.

Medical Specialists and Executives Command Highest Salaries

Salary data revealed significant differences in advertised earnings across occupations and educational qualifications.

Specialist medical practitioners recorded the highest average annual advertised salary in September at CI$217,000.

Managing directors and chief executives followed at CI205,556,whilelawyersaveragedCI187,774 annually.

Educational attainment was also associated with differences in advertised salaries.

Positions requiring doctoral qualifications offered the highest average annual salary by education level at CI$152,130.

Jobs requiring master’s degrees averaged CI94,661,comparedwithCI91,597 for positions specifying bachelor’s degrees.

These figures reflect advertised salaries rather than confirmed earnings.

Full-Time Employment Dominates Vacancies

Full-time positions accounted for the overwhelming majority of September advertisements, with 1,729 postings representing approximately 97% of the total.

The remaining vacancies included 35 part-time positions, 12 temporary roles and seven shift-related postings.

WORC said its monthly reporting provides information to support government agencies and other stakeholders in identifying labour-market requirements and developing workforce training initiatives.

However, the agency noted that the statistics capture vacancies advertised through its online portal rather than every available position in the Cayman Islands.

Consequently, the reported increase reflects growth in advertised recruitment activity on the WORC platform and should not be interpreted as a comprehensive measure of employment growth across the economy.
