Saint Lucia is strengthening its efforts to finance climate resilience projects through a new initiative aimed at connecting priority adaptation investments with international funding and development partners.
The country recently hosted its Climate Change Adaptation Investment Pitch and Matchmaking Event at the Finance Administrative Centre in Pointe Seraphine, Castries, bringing together government agencies, climate finance organizations, development institutions, private-sector representatives and other stakeholders for two days of discussions focused on advancing the implementation of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP).
Organized by the Department of Sustainable Development, the forum introduced an Adaptation Investment Pitch and Matchmaking approach designed to improve access to financing while fostering strategic partnerships for climate adaptation projects.
Representatives from key sectors, including tourism, education, infrastructure and spatial planning, presented projects intended to strengthen the island’s resilience to climate-related risks. These initiatives form part of Saint Lucia’s broader National Adaptation Plan and are aimed at supporting sustainable development while addressing growing environmental challenges.
The event provided an opportunity for local agencies to demonstrate how climate priorities can be developed into investment-ready proposals capable of attracting national, regional and international support.
In addition to project presentations, participants engaged in investment discussions and one-on-one meetings with climate funds, development agencies and private investors. These conversations focused on identifying financing opportunities, strengthening collaboration and accelerating the implementation of adaptation initiatives.
The forum was spearheaded by the Department of Sustainable Development in partnership with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and the NAP Global Network.
Organizers expect the initiative to generate new partnerships and expressions of interest that will help expand Saint Lucia’s climate adaptation investment pipeline. Priority projects include strengthening roads, bridges, schools and other critical infrastructure to better withstand the impacts of climate change while supporting communities and long-term economic resilience.
