Usain Bolt with Guinness World Records Icon certificate

Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt has added another remarkable title to his name; Guinness World Records ICON. The world-renowned athlete was honoured by the organisation this week for his unmatched achievements and global impact on athletics.

The announcement came via the official Guinness World Records Instagram page, celebrating Bolt’s world record in the 100 metres, set at 9.58 seconds during the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Over a decade later, the record remains unbroken, and Bolt’s influence remains just as powerful.

Now 38, Bolt received the special ICON certificate during a surprise presentation in Manchester. Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday personally handed over the framed certificate, recognizing not just his speed, but his influence beyond the track.

On receiving the award, Bolt shared his pride and gratitude:
“I’m honoured to be a part of the greats, and always happy to be recognized by the Guinness World Records book,” he said. “For years I’ve been in there and I’ve finally got all the certificates, which are going to look really good in my house.”Bolt also spoke to the significance of the moment:
“Being an ICON is what I strive for. It shows that the work I put in really matters. I’m happy to be part of it.”

Glenday praised the sprinter’s contribution to the world beyond his athletic records.
“Usain Bolt is more than just a record-holder. He’s a global ICON who has demonstrated what the human body and spirit are capable of,” Glenday said.

Bolt’s legacy includes more than just the 100m world record. He also holds the 200m world record at 19.19 seconds and helped Jamaica set a 4x100m relay world record of 36.84 seconds at the London 2012 Olympics. Between 2008 and 2016, Bolt earned eight Olympic gold medals and was named World Athlete of the Year a record six times.

His journey to global stardom began early at just 15, he became the youngest male athlete to win gold at the World Junior Championships in 2002. He went on to make history as the only man to win three consecutive Olympic titles in both the 100m and 200m events.

Now officially recognized as a Guinness World Records ICON, Bolt joins a rare and prestigious list of global change makers, including double amputee triathlete Billy Monger, polar explorer Preet Chandi, music superstar Taylor Swift, and record holders Rumeysa Gelgi and Jyoti Amge.

Though retired since 2017, Usain Bolt’s name continues to symbolize excellence, determination, and the power of belief. With this latest recognition, his legacy as the fastest man alive is now joined by the lasting title of ICON.
