Uber set for Saint Lucia launch marks a significant shift for the island’s transportation sector, as the ride-hailing platform opens registration for licensed taxi drivers. As preparations continue, the move positions Uber Taxi as a new, technology-driven option that connects local drivers with residents and visitors.
Across Saint Lucia, taxi operators can now begin onboarding ahead of the official rollout.
Uber Set for Saint Lucia Launch With Islandwide Driver Registration
On December 16, 2025, Uber officially opened islandwide registration for taxi drivers. Interested operators can now download the Uber Driver app and start the onboarding process.
Importantly, Uber Taxi works only with licensed taxi drivers. As a result, the service aligns with existing transport regulations while supporting the current taxi system rather than replacing it.
Uber Set for Saint Lucia Launch Prioritizes Local Driver Support
According to Jorge Cordero, Uber’s General Manager for Saint Lucia, collaboration remains central to the company’s approach.
He explained that Uber aims to help licensed taxi operators increase earning opportunities through digital tools. At the same time, the platform allows tourists who already use the Uber app to connect easily with trusted local transportation. Meanwhile, Uber continues outreach to taxi associations and transport companies to ensure a coordinated rollout.
Uber Taxi Expands Its Caribbean and Global Footprint
Across the region, Uber Taxi already operates in destinations such as Barbados, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. Beyond the Caribbean, the service also runs in major cities including New York and Paris.
Because of this track record, Uber expects a smooth integration into Saint Lucia’s transport landscape. Additionally, the familiar app-based system may enhance convenience for both visitors and residents.
Driver Requirements and What Comes Next
To complete registration, drivers must submit several documents. These include a valid driver’s license, taxi permit, proof of insurance, banking details, a profile photo, and a background check.
For now, Uber remains focused on onboarding drivers. Once operational readiness is complete, the company will officially announce the launch of Uber Taxi in Saint Lucia.
