Grenada Welcomes the 8th Edition of the Viking Explorers Rally

St. George, Grenada – February 11, 2025 – The Grenada Tourism Authority proudly welcomed the 8th edition of the Viking Explorers Rally at a special prize-giving ceremony at True Blue Bay Resort. This annual event celebrates the achievements of sailors who have successfully completed the transatlantic journey from the Canary Islands to Grenada.

Renowned for its emphasis on camaraderie and adventure over competition, the Viking Explorers Rally brings together a select fleet of up to 25 boats each year. The 2,700-nautical-mile voyage fosters a close-knit community among participants, many of whom remain in Grenada long after their arrival.

This year’s ceremony featured heartfelt speeches and acknowledgments. Oliver Solanas Heinrichs, Managing Director of the Viking Explorers, warmly welcomed attendees and introduced key sponsors. 

Tornia Charles, Sales and Marketing Director of the Grenada Tourism Authority, expressed appreciation to the sailors for choosing Grenada,

“We are ecstatic that the Viking Explorers have once again chosen Grenada as their destination. Over the past five years, this rally has done more than bring visitors to our shores—it has fostered deep connections with our island. Participants stay for extended periods, work on their boats, and return year after year, contributing significantly to our local economy. This year, they have gone even further by bringing tools and equipment to assist with recovery efforts in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, and for that, we are truly grateful.”

A highlight of this year’s festivities was a culinary collaboration with Mount Cinnamon, Grenada Distillers, and the Grenada Tourism Authority. Pookie Tredell, a finalist from MasterChef UK 2022, curated an exceptional culinary experience, blending Grenadian and Thai flavors to showcase the island’s rich local produce and spices.
