Trinidad born filmmaker, Damian Marcano, has officially joined the ranks of Emmy Award winners, taking home the coveted trophy for his work on multiple episodes of The Pitt in the Outstanding Drama Series category at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night.
Marcano, who now resides abroad, began his creative journey in Trinidad and Tobago before carving out an international career. He first captured global attention with his 2013 feature film God Loves the Fighter, a gritty, unapologetic portrayal of life in Port of Spain that earned critical acclaim and festival prizes worldwide.
Over the years, he has built an impressive résumé, directing projects such as TNT’s Claws, HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, and FX’s Snowfall. His portfolio also includes acclaimed works like Fire Queen, Giants, and Heart of a Monster. Today, he leads the Los Angeles–based Cinnamon Group, which continues to expand his creative footprint in Hollywood.
Following his win, Marcano took to Instagram to share a message filled with humility and faith:
“Give thanks for life, for the works and for the blessings along the journey. From the islands to the Emmy stage, every step is Jah guidance. Going Silent again – More works to come – Forward ever, backward never.”
The heartfelt post resonated with supporters worldwide, particularly those from Trinidad and Tobago who proudly celebrated his achievement as a win for the nation.
Trinidadians flooded social media with congratulatory messages. One supporter, Allison Sylvester, wrote:
“Congratulations sir, so proud of you! Well done – a true Trini amazing you!! Shine on, bro, keep up the good work. Love this recognition for our country.”
Another fan, Sue Noel, echoed the sentiment:
“Congratulations on your achievement, I am proud of you. We need some good news about Trinidad. May God continue to bless the work of your hands.”
Before stepping into Hollywood’s spotlight, Marcano honed his skills by directing music videos for top Soca acts, including Machel Montano. His creative touch can be seen in iconic songs like The Fog, Float, and Represent. Those early projects laid the foundation for the visual storytelling that would later define his international career.
With an Emmy Award now to his name, Marcano shows no signs of slowing down. He will return to direct the second season of The Pitt, continuing to bring his bold vision and Caribbean roots to international screens.
From Morvant to Hollywood, and now the Emmy stage, Damian Marcano’s journey is proof of the global reach of Caribbean talent and a source of inspiration for creatives across the region.
